Christopher Allen

Artists Statement

Christopher Allen was born in Hartlepool in 1985. He studied Photography at Cleveland College of Art and Design in Hartlepool, gaining a BA in Photography in 2013. He then worked towards an MA in Photography at Arts University Bournemouth, graduating in September 2014. Growing up in the North East of England, he was surrounded by industry, or the remnants of it, but also within a stones throw of beautiful countryside. Both of these types of landscapes have majorly influenced his work as a photographer, and the recurrent theme within his work tends to be the green spaces that can be found within or on the outskirts of urban and suburban areas. Christophers work is predominantly made using a large format camera and colour film as he explores the areas surrounding his home. The New Topographic photographers such as Robert Adams, Stephen Shore and Lewis Baltz were some of his early influences, and their working practices and ideals have been a source of inspiration for him throughout his study.
